Xacti arrived

The camera arrived Tuesday morning. I have been playing around with it. No complaints so far-- there are many features. Can save a range of quality images-- over 7000 JPEG images at 640x480, over 350 at 8 megapixel. Over 40 minutes of video and audio at 640x480 30 fps high quality, or 16 a 1/2 hours of sound only. Easily connects to the TV for playback. Connects to both Mac or PC via USB for transfer. The issue I have is not related to the camera, but editing. The software that comes with the camera for editing, from Ulead, is sub-standard. I'd like to pick up an Adobe Premiere package for about $100 before I post my first video. Either that or spend $500+ for a Mac...

By the way, the eBay deal was great. Ordered Sunday evening, arrived Tuesday morning before 10.

More later...

  1. Yves, I'd love to see you try editing some footage shot with your Xacti in iMovie HD as it has a MPEG4 mode which is supposedly designed for this camera. It works great with footage compressed with Handbrake (including the Top Shelf episodes) and they sell the previous version Fisher at the Apple stores already. I just got my new Mac mini and if you'd like to try to edit with it, I'd love to try to shoot around with your Xacti. We could arrange a weekend swap in a dark alley way somewhere between Lowell and Newton I suppose....

  2. Wow, I never checked out iMovie HD..

I guess I got to save up for a Mac Mini, or one of those new powerbooks.

  3. hey Yves.

How's the mic on this thing? Eli and I are looking to acquire a bunch of flash-based cameras for a videoblogging jumpstart program and the Xacti C4/C5 is looking like the line to go with.

  4. The microphone is adequate for the device you are getting. It could be better. For samples, check out Raymond's posts on Vimeo. He just purchased a Xacti C4.
